Urge to improve energy management

npower business is calling on businesses in the UK to improve energy efficiency in the face of new research that employees are not being given the information they need to reduce CO2 emissions in the workplace.

Companies urged to improve energy monitoring and management DESPITE increased pressure on UK industry to cut greenhouse gases, a survey has revealed that although 75% of the nation’s workers are concerned about climate change, only 33% are given information by their employers about how to save energy at work.

Added to this, 53% of those polled said their businesses do not have an energy manager who takes responsibility for energy management and monitoring in the workplace. A further 15% did not know if their company had one.

The results are given further significance when viewed against information from the Carbon Trust which show that UK businesses are wasting £2 billion of energy each year due to poor energy efficiency. That’s equivalent to approximately 73,000 tonnes of CO2 needlessly pumped into the atmosphere every day. In view of the results, npower is stressing the importance of improved energy management and monitoring to eradicate wasted energy and deliver environmental and financial improvements.
