New exhibitor to Autosport Engineering

Autosport Engineering welcomes new exhibitor Flybrid Systems LLP, due to present its latest development to the industry.

The firm has developed a new high-speed flywheel-based energy storage and recovery system, which meets the proposed 2009 FIA Formula 1 regulations and is also suitable for other racing formulae and road vehicles.

It is the brainchild of Flybrid Systems partners Jon Hilton and Doug Cross who will be showcasing the company's spinning flywheel - designed to survive a crash test of the severity used for F1 frontal impact testing.

Hilton has a long record of success in motor racing going back to Michael Schumacher's first F1 championship victory in a Benetton powered by a Cosworth V8 for which he designed a number of parts. After seven seasons at Cosworth, five seasons at TWR Arrows and four seasons at the Renault F1 Team working as Technical Director of the UK-based Engine Division, his achievements were capped with a fantastic back-to-back double victory for Renault in 2005 and 2006.

Cross shared the Renault victories as design manager of the UK-based Engine Division, playing his part in the significant engine performance improvements that helped to secure them.

Previous employment at Toyota F1 and Ricardo Consulting Engineers gives Cross a strong engineering background combined with commercial understanding.
