Military efficiency
The Indian air force has ordered a Rotajet D40 aqueous-based cleaning system to degrease aerospace components, overcoming the problem of using solvents on site.
Rotajet Systems has followed up its success in supplying around 70 of its aqueous-based industrial cleaning systems to the UK’s armed forces. The company has received its first order from the Indian air force, for a Rotajet D40 machine to degrease aerospace components. The system is fully automated and uses an aerospace industry approved cleaning agent supplied by Rotajet, overcoming the problem of using VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) on site.
Colin Steward of Rotajet says: 'This order is a real breakthrough for Rotajet. We have worked hard to bring the benefits of our aqueous-based cleaning systems to the aerospace market; now, ongoing contracts with the MOD - and an initial order from India - show that our message of removing VOC from aircraft manufacturing and servicing environments is getting through. We also have NATO stock numbers assigned to three of our Rotajet models; and we have developed new aqueous technologies to meet stringent emission laws across the aerospace market.'
The Rotajet machine ordered by the Indian air force is a D40. This has a fully programmable cleaning cycle, which can be changed according to the type of contamination being removed. Once programmed, the washing process is fully automatic, and is carried out in a closed system, thus minimising health and safety issues. The washing process employs an operating principle where cleaning solutions are pumped, at high pressure and flow, through multiple knife jets to achieve total coverage of the containers. The used solution is then returned to recirculating sumps to be filtered, which helps to extend the life of the fluid and the machine’s mechanical parts; the filtered fluid is then heated ready for re-use.
In addition to resolving the problem of using VOCs on site, Rotajet machines are also providing a much more environmentally conscious solution to the problem of traditional degreasing. Rotajet machines are used by the UK military; the RAF, REME. and the Navy, and now carry NATO stock numbers. They are supplied and supported worldwide.
