Subcontractor invests in third CMM
Jefferson Engineering has added to its considerable inspection capability with the acquisition of a third Mitutoyo Euro C 776 Apex CNC CMM. The Kent-based subcontractor specialises in manufacturing ultra-high precision machined components for high technology OEMs in the aerospace, defence, formula one, medical, electronics, and scientific instrumentation industries.
Jefferson’s focus on high precision component manufacture has seen the company invest several million pounds in high speed, high accuracy, 5-axis Matsuura machining centres during the past two years. To complement its formidable precision machining capability, Jefferson has now invested in additional CMM inspection capacity to ensure 100% Quality Assurance for its demanding customer base, where performance-critical components require zero defect manufacture.
The complexity and accuracy of the components machined by Jefferson demands a highly accurate and repeatable CMM. Based on these criteria, Jefferson did not hesitate in its decision to acquire a third Mitutoyo CMM, given a flawless record of reliability and excellent service from Mitutoyo over the past 15 years. To support Jefferson’s machining requirements, MCOSMOS-3 software has been selected with the Mitutoyo. This software package allows off-line programming direct from original CAD models (Catia v5, Pro-Engineer etc) without translation; full scanning capability for non-uniform profile / surface measurement and evaluation; and user defined inspection output to allow Jefferson to report SPC and CPK data direct to customers via the internet.
